Breed History
Developed in Scotland during the late 19th century, the Golden Retriever was mainly bred to retrieve animals during hunting.
This dog breed that we know today came from cross-breeding a yellow Flat-coated Retriever and a Tweed Water Spaniel. Then, the Red Setters, Bloodhounds, and Labrador Retrievers have been incorporated to better refine the Golden’s retrieving ability, temperament, and intelligence.
The Kennel Club (UK) officially recognized the Golden Retriever in 1913. Since then, Goldens have become more popular globally for their versatility as service dogs, hunting dogs, and family pets.
