Lucky’s Journey: Overcoming a 5-Month Skin Infection

Months of itching. Endless allergy treatments at another clinic. Still, no relief in sight. When Lucky finally came to us, we discovered the real cause: a bacterial skin infection, not an allergy. With the right diagnosis and care, she recovered completely within just three weeks.

Case Overview

Lucky, a cheerful and loving dog, had spent nearly five months battling a persistent skin irritation. Lucky's family had been informed she was suffering with an allergic reaction, and despite multiple treatments, there was no sign of improvement.

The itching, redness, and irritation continued, leaving Lucky uncomfortable and her family frustrated and worried.

Diagnosis & Decision

When Lucky was brought to our clinic, our team, led by Dr. Paulina, conducted a detailed examination and diagnostic workup. With her dermatology expertise, Dr. Paulina quickly identified that Lucky’s condition was not an allergy, but superficial bacterial folliculitis.

Superficial bacterial folliculitis is a common skin infection caused by bacteria affecting the hair follicles. In Lucky’s case, it had developed due to a temporary suppression of her immune system linked to the dog’s hormonal cycle.

The Procedure

To target the infection effectively, Lucky was prescribed a course of long-term antibiotics, combined with regular use of antibacterial shampoos and topical foams. This comprehensive approach helped eliminate the bacteria, soothe inflammation, and restore the skin’s natural balance.

The Road to Recovery

Within just three weeks, Lucky’s transformation was remarkable. The redness and irritation subsided, new, healthy fur started filling in the bald patches, and her playful energy returned. After months of discomfort and misdirected treatments, the correct diagnosis and targeted care finally brought relief.

“Skin infections can often mimic allergies, so accurate diagnosis is essential. French Bulldogs, like Lucky, are especially prone to skin problems, which makes getting the right diagnosis even more important. Once we identified the real cause of her symptoms, we were able to tailor the right treatment plan and the improvement was clear within weeks.”
