A critical blockage. Intense pain. No ability to urinate, until Rupert was rushed to our branch in Jumeirah. This is the story of an emergency resolved through precise surgical intervention and rapid decision-making.

Case Overview
Rupert, a 4-year-old Dachshund, presented to our clinic in critical condition. He was in visible distress, vomiting, unable to urinate, and suffering from severe abdominal pain.
His bladder was dangerously distended, and the urgency of the situation was clear. Diagnostic imaging revealed multiple bladder stones and a large urolith completely blocking his urethra, putting his life at serious risk.
Diagnosis & Decision
After stabilising Rupert, Dr. Mafalda determined that immediate intervention was needed.
A two-step plan was implemented: to relieve the obstruction and remove all stones to prevent future issues. The approach included urethral catheterisation with hydropulsion, followed by surgical removal of the stones via cystotomy.
