Russian Blues were believed to have their roots in Archangelsk (Archangel Island), off the coast of Northern Russia. Because of this, they were nicknamed “Archangel Cats.” These cats were favored by nobility for their plush coats and royal personalities.
While not much was uncovered regarding their history, Russian Blues became a favorite in Great Britain, where they were grouped with other blue short-haired cats. However, it was only after World War II that their popularity truly skyrocketed.
Today, Russian Blues are still prized worldwide for their beauty and quiet affection.

Russian Blues have a wedge-shaped head with a straight nose and a flat forehead.

Their eyes are large, almond-shaped, and set wide apart. The only color is green.

They have a long, firm, and muscular body that is known as a “semi-foreign.” Because of this, they appear graceful.

Russian Blues should be brushed once or twice a week. Use a soft-bristle brush and slowly brush away loose hairs and maintain their coat.

This breed rarely suffers from skin problems, but their thick coat can trap allergens. Regular brushing should help with skin health.

Russian Blues are naturally clean and don’t require frequent baths. A bath can be done every 4 to 6 weeks. Dry them thoroughly.
