WHAT TO WATCH
Heart disease doesn't always look like an emergency
Heart disease is more common than most owners expect, affecting roughly 1 in 10 dogs and up to 15% of cats over their lifetime, and it often progresses in stages rather than announcing itself all at once.
No visible signs yet
Sometimes picked up as a murmur during a routine exam, before anything looks wrong at home.
Early signs
A bit less energy on walks, occasional coughing, especially at night.
More advanced signs
Laboured breathing, a swollen abdomen, fainting or collapse, pale or bluish gums - these warrant a same-day visit, not a wait-and-see approach.
If you've noticed any of the advanced signs, it's worth having a closer look. These can point to something urgent than something to watch.

A CLOSER LOOK
What our echo scans show
An echocardiogram is how we actually see the heart working, not just hear it. Our Esaote MyLab X7 ultrasound system shows your pet's heart chambers, valves, and blood flow in real time, so a diagnosis is based on what we can see, not just what we can hear through a stethoscope.
Automatic ejection fraction measurement
Heart strain imaging
High-sensitivity blood flow detection
