Feline Infectious Peritonitis

A sudden change behind a playful spirit. A head that won’t stay upright. Poor body condition. When Miyu was finally brought to us, she showed us signs of neurological feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a condition that required immediate attention.

Case Overview

Miyu is a sweet 2-year-old Domestic Shorthair who has initially been experiencing mild weight loss and a reduced appetite. Over time, she began struggling with walking, disorientation, abnormal eye movements, and signs of ear discomfort.

On top of that, Miyu was around 45 days pregnant. With multiple hospitalizations at different clinics without any improvement, her pet parents grew more and more worried.

Diagnosis & Decision

Our first priority was to stabilize Miyu and perform a detailed examination. Based on her symptoms, lifestyle, and lab results, Dr. Angie strongly suspected neurological FIP. We also considered central vestibular syndrome and toxoplasmosis, but FIP was the most likely cause.

Due to the urgency of the situation, we began treatment immediately. Our team moved quickly but thoughtfully, taking extra care with every step, especially since Miyu was pregnant at the time.

The Procedure

Miyu was hospitalized so we could closely monitor her condition. Our team provided all-around care, with supportive therapy, IV fluids, and precise medical management. This helped her regain her strength, supporting her body during the treatment process.

We provided her with carefully selected medications, including antibiotics, antivirals, and other medications to relieve symptoms.

The Road to Recovery

By day 3, Miyu was able to stand, use her litter box, and had an improved appetite. Her progress continued day by day. Soon, she was able to walk better, eat and drink on her own, and look more like herself. By day 10, Miyu showed remarkable neurological improvement with good energy and mobility.
