Pet ICU Care

By Dr. Lidija Krvavac

Having a pet admitted to the ICU can be an incredibly stressful experience, here's what actually happens behind the doors.

In this video, Dr. Lidija Krvavac explains what round-the-clock ICU care really involves.

Key Takeaways from Dr. Lidija:
- Constant Monitoring: Round-the-clock observation is central to ICU care.
- Oxygen Therapy: Many patients need help breathing more easily.
- Medication & IV Fluids: Administered as needed throughout their stay.
- Tracking Vitals Closely: Temperature and other key parameters are checked continuously, so treatment happens the moment it's needed.

Hi, I'm Dr. Lidija. ICU or intensive care unit and admission to a hospital can be quite scary. When a pet is in the ICU, we are going to do round the-clock monitoring. They will a lot of the times need oxygen therapy to breathe better. We will administer medications and intravenous fluids. We will check their temperatures or other things that they may need. At this time, this ICU or intensive care means exactly that. We are watching them closely, following all of their vitals and parameters, and making sure we're administering medication and treatment as soon as they need it.
