A dog microchip is a small electronic chip placed under the dog's skin by licensed veterinarians. It's usually about the size of a grain of rice.
When scanned, the chip displays a unique identification number that can be linked to the pet registry or central database to retrieve the owner's contact details and information. This ID number is 15 digits long and complies with global ISO standards (ISO 11784/11785).
The microchip doesn't contain any personal data, only the unique 15-digit number. This links to the database information managed by the Dubai Municipality, which stores:
Your name, address, email, phone number, and Emirates ID number
Your pet's name, breed, age, and physical characteristics
Your pet's medical history, including vaccination history
Microchips give dogs a life-long ID that cannot be lost, removed, or tampered with.
